Research MSc Position Available

Fully funded 2-year Research MSc position available with University of Galway (Ireland), University of Aveiro (Portugal) and Bantry Bay Marine Research Station (Ireland).

This fully funded studentship is part of an Industry-led project focusing on the production nori from Irish Porphya species. Nori species are edible red seaweeds with a high commercial value. The Marine Institute-funded NORI project aims to develop nori production based on Irish species. Contributing this broader goal, objectives of this particular MSc project are to assess the chemical composition and nutritional value of nori biomass (conchocelis and blade phases) produced under different culture conditions. Favourable growth conditions will be identified by quantification of pigments, Mycosporine-like Amino Acids (MAAs) and fatty acid profiles of different strains from a range of environmental scenarios. Additionally, proximate analysis and bioactivity will be determined.

Registration

The student will be registered at the University of Galway and be based in Galway and Aveiro, and also work closely with Bantry Marine Research Station.

Scholarship

EU Fees for a Research Masters (MS) registered at the University of Galway for 2 years.
Annual stipend: €25,000 (24 months)
